Ambush Day Recap!

Wow. As I type this I am so happy, overwhelmed, exhausted, and delirious! What a day!

It started with a lot of waiting. We couldn’t reveal the family’s identity until we were given the green light. We waited for over three hours until, finally! The e-mail came. From there it was a whirlwind.

In case you don’t know, the family EMHE has chosen is the Sharrock family, of Rossville, Georgia. Cindy and Michael have a 9-year-old son, Patrick, who has brittle bone disease. Patrick calls his house “a danger zone.”

When we got to the site, we hung out in a nearby church parking lot until we were given the OK to move closer to the home. What is utterly impressive is how quickly that neighborhood turned into a construction zone. Even more impressive? The fact that none of the neighbors seem to mind. When we were allowed closer, I spoke with the man who lives across the street, and whose lawn on which I was standing. He said he was more than happy to give up his space if it means a better home for Patrick and his parents.

The interview with the family is priceless. It is nearly impossible not to love Patrick. Click the link below to watch the news conference with the Sharrocks. I used an iPhone app called “twitcasting” that streams live video on your twitter page. I’ve saved this video so you can watch it again! You might want to fast forward a few minutes because it takes a while for the family to come out.

There are so many little stories from the day, but I’ll just tell you that yes, I saw Ty Pennington! But, no, we’re not friends…yet. Ty, Leigh Anne Touhy, Ed Sanders, Xzibit, and Eduardo Xol are the designers on this build. Eduardo gave us an interview today. He was super, super nice and incredibly, incredibly handsome.

After interviews, it was showtime! Right before we hit the air, EMHE crews shot the “Braveheart” moment. It’s when the builders and volunteers march to the home to meet the family!

If you want to view more of my “Twitcasts” from Ambush Day, click here. There’s a couple from when we first arrived and when we first got close to the house! To sum up the day: Love the Sharrocks, saw Ty, THERE’S THAT BUS!

Monday is demo day. I can’t wait to see what Monday brings! Keep checking back with the blog, twitter, and Facebook. You never know when that Twitcast will pop up!
